Sydney Uni building rivalry with Hills Eagles
By Matt Rossleigh
Sydney University is looking for its first win of the NEAFL season when it takes on cross-city rivals Hills Eagles on Sunday at Henson Park.
The two clubs will meet for the second of five matches against each other this season and defender Anton Turco says the teams are building a healthy rivalry.
“There is a rivalry there because we are the two Sydney teams in the NEAFL comp if you take out the two reserve teams from GWS and the Swans so I’d say the rivalry is building,” said Turco.
“Before we joined NEAFL we also lost a close grand final to them which adds to the rivalry.”
The two clubs will be playing for the Gordon Physick Cup which recognises the tireless work Harvey “Banger” Gordon and Peter Physick have given to Sydney University and Sydney Hills Eagles respectively.
“This is the second time we will play them in three weeks and we’ll be playing them five times this season so it’s going to turn into a grudge match,” said Turco.
The Eagles ran out 36-point victors on that occasion but Turco says this is the game Sydney University looks at as a great chance to get the first win of the season.
“We’ll definitely be looking at this game as an opportunity to get our first win, we beat Hills Eagles last year and the game we played against them this season which was their only win was pretty close.”
The first bounce is a 2pm on Sunday at Henson Park in Marrickville.
