Sydney and Canberra to host matches in inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Competition

The fixture for the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s competition was recently released, with three matches to be played in Sydney and Canberra and all games across the competition to be broadcast live.

The GWS GIANTS will play two home games in Sydney, at Blacktown International Sportspark and one at Manuka Oval in Canberra as part of the seven-week round-robin fixture.

The season will kick off on Friday February 3, with the Grand Final to be held during round one of the AFL Premiership Season, on Saturday March 25.

Sydney football fans will first be able to see the GWS GIANTS in action on Saturday February 18 at Blacktown International Sportspark when they take on Fremantle in Round 3. In Round 5 they return to Blacktown on Friday March 3 to take on the Melbourne Demons in a curtain-raiser before one of the biggest games on the pre-season calendar, the Sydney Derby.

The GIANTS will then take on the Western Bulldogs at home in front of their Canberra fans at Manuka Oval on March 18.

AFL NSW/ACT CEO Sam Graham said he was looking forward to seeing the NAB AFL Women’s competition kick off in February.

“The inaugural GWS GIANTS list features 14 players from NSW and 5 from the ACT so it’s a great opportunity for football fans across the State and Territory to support their local talent”, he said.

Fans will enjoy free access to all NAB AFL Women’s competition matches, with the exception of the double-headers played as curtain-raisers. A ticket to the JLT Community Series match will be required for entry to those games.
