Suns Outshine UWS GIANTS

The GIANTS set the tone early, heading into all the breaks with a solid lead in what was a tough and physical contest.

But some untimely errors late in the final term cost the GIANTS the four points and fourth spot on the ladder, with Suns running away with the match by 21 points.

UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand said he was disappointed with the result given his side took a 19-point lead into the final term.

“It was disappointing to be three goals up with ten minutes to go and lose the game by three goals,” Hand said.

“Some fundamental errors and poor decision making turned the ball over and gave the Suns the lead, and then they kicked a couple of late goals to blow the score out,” Hand said.

Despite the result, Hand was impressed by the work rate of his young side.

“Tom Downie was very good at giving our midfielders first use of the ball, while Sam Schulz won a number of clearances and contested ball.”

“Nick Haynes was excellent in defence along with Stephen Gilham who took a number of intercept marks and they both started our ball movement.

“BretThornton and Kristian Jaksch were also good in the forward line taking some solid grabs in one-on-one contests.”

The UWS GIANTS will head into the bye in fifth place on the NEAFL ladder before returning to play Queanbeyan at Dairy Farmers Park on Sunday, June 30.
