Sun comes out to play for James Hird Cup
The previous few days of rain threatened to dampen the day, with AFL Staff being warned that one drop of rain would cause the ground to be closed.
However, luck was on their side as the sun came to the party and the kids enjoyed perfect weather for footy.
Six teams of 12 a side took part, leading up to the Grandfinal which saw Canberra Grammar and Jerrabomberra the last two sides standing.
A big crowd gathered to watch the final, which was an intense game with both teams playing good tough footy.
A nailbiting finish saw the game tied at full-time, leading to an extra 2 x 4 minutes halves.
Canberra Grammar finished victors, winning by just one point at the end of the extra time.
The final score was, Canberra Grammar 8.3.51 defeating Jerrabomberra 7.8.50
Canberra Grammar and Jerrambomberra will now go on to represent the ACT in the GWS zone finals day on July 25 in Canberra.
Also on the day saw Daramalan and Stromlo play for the Under-14s GIANTS Cup, and Canberra Grammar and St Francis Xavier compete for the Under-16s title.
Daramalan defeated Stromlo 6.11.47 def Stromlo 3.2.20, while Canberra Grammar 5.3.33 def St Francis Xaiver 2.1.13
In the Girls James Hird Cup, Radford and Weetangera came first and second respectively.
All winners from the GIANTS Cup will also compete in the state finals on July 25 at Greenway.
