Shoalhaven City to host AFL Rep Carnival
Shoalhaven City Council will join with AFL NSW/ACT in hosting the inaugural South Coast Junior Representative Carnival to be held at Nowra Showground this weekend.
The carnival will feature players from the four surrounding leagues including the Sapphire Coast, Shoalhaven Juniors, Illawarra Juniors and the Central West.
With players competing across a number of age divisions, the carnival has been billed as an unprecedented opportunity for regional AFL players to compete in a spirited weekend of entertaining football.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green welcomed the competitors to the Shoalhaven saying the event was a fantastic opportunity for local players to test their skills against quality opposition.
“With over 400 junior players taking part in this weekend’s carnival it is sure to provide for an exciting and entertaining two days of AFL football,” said Clr Green.
“I would certainly like to welcome all of the competitors, officials and spectators travelling to Nowra for the carnival and wish them all the best for the weekend.
“The Shoalhaven is the perfect venue for a tournament of this magnitude and the South Coast Junior Representative Carnival is a further example of Council’s commitment to sports tourism in the area.”
AFL NSW/ACT General Manager Tom Harley said the annual carnival will showcase some of the best talent from the southern regional areas.
“With a huge number of junior players in the region it is fantastic to see the leagues gathering to compete in this carnival,” he said.
“It’s really important we work to ensure that our junior players are given the opportunity to improve their skills through a variety of playing experiences, I’m sure we will see some fantastic games across the weekend.”
