Shane Lenon speaks at Induction Day
The South West Regional Junior Umpiring Squad held its 2011 Induction Day on Sunday 28th November in Wagga Wagga. The squad is made up of the following umpires:
Andrew Tuovi (Field)
Drew Raynes (Field)
Hayden Banks (Field)
Sam Wemyss (Field)
Patrick Ross (Field)
Patrick Harris (Field)
The day was opened by State Umpiring Manager Graham Glassford who welcomed the umpires into the Squad, spoke about the Umpire Opportunity Pathway and also took the umpires through a skill session on positioning and set kick control.
A highlight of the day was a presentation made to the group by respected football identity and Premiership coach, Shane Lenon. Lenon spoke about various topics including making the right choices, reaching your potential, focusing on different areas of your life and setting goals. His talk was informative and extremely inspirational.
Other aspects of the day included an induction to the Squad where members were updated on the format of the year and the expectations of them as squad umpires. They were also put through a series of fitness tests including a 3 km Time Trial, Prone hold and pushup to exhaustion.
All members will be involved in Regional Junior Umpiring Squad coaching sessions as well as umpiring at Southern NSW Talented Player Program trials throughout the 2011 season.
