Setanta visits Multicultural camp

The participants, aged between 12 and 16, are from multicultural backgrounds (defined as being born overseas or having at least one parent born overseas) and will undergo high performance testing, skills coaching, mentoring and team work during the camp.

AFL Multicultural Ambassador Setanta O’hAilpin will share his playing experiences with the participants during the camp, which is run by the AFL NSW/ACT Multicultural Program in conjunction with the AFL NSW/ACT Talent and Coaching department.

Camp participants will have the opportunity to take part in a curtain raiser during Multicultural Round in Round 16, when the Sydney Swans take on the GWS GIANTS at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

AFL NSW/ACT Multicultural Programs Manager, Nickie Flambouras says the camp will give young players the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as well as playing ability.

“This is a great opportunity for these young men to be able to benchmark themselves against other aspiring footballers while paving the way to future, professional opportunities,” Flambouras said.

“It’s also great for their team spirit and meeting new people.”

The camp is a two-day program, running from April 16-17 and will be held at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence in Redfern.
