Schools unite for AFL Hub

More than 120 excited students from St Brigid’s, Irrawang, Wirreanda and Glen William primary schools participated in this brand new initiative, held on Tuesday March 26, where they got to put their budding footy skills into action.
The aim of the AFL Hub was to bring together all the local schools that had been participating in the Active After-school Communities AFL program for the previous six weeks.
This program gave children, many of whom had never played AFL before, a hands-on introduction to the sport and is now providing them with the perfect pathway to progress into playing for their local junior AFL club.
Adam Wren, Regional Coordinator for the Active After-school Communities program, praised AFL/NSW ACT for their support and assistance in making the AFL Hub a fun day for all involved.
“It was also fantastic to work closely with the Port Stephens Power AFL Club and the schools to offer this opportunity to the many children that attended the day and participated in the weekly programs,” he said.
“We are now hoping that due to the success of the event we can increase the number of children that decide to play with the local Port Stephens Power Junior AFL club”.
The AFL Hub day also generated valuable funding for junior membership, and enough was raised from the event to ensure that the first junior 20 registrations would effectively be free of charge.
