This Sunday, 14 August 2016, two of Sydney’s ‘lesser-known’ AFL teams will do battle at Henson Park in an effort to raise much needed funds for Reclink Australia.

The Sydney Sailors – a team comprised of some of Australia’s top media personalities – will take on the Western Whalers – a squad of some of the country’s most well-known musicians – in the annual Reclink Community Cup.

Reclink Australia is an organisation aiming to provide sporting, recreational, and artistic opportunities to those doing it tough, including the homeless, at risk youth, and people suffering from mental illness and addiction.

In order to raise the money needed to provide these opportunities to those in need, Reclink have built the Community Cup event into a national fundraiser with matches held right across Australia each year.

Starting small in 1993, the Reclink Community Cup has gone from strength-to-strength with over 10,000 people attending the Melbourne event in 2015, and more than $100,000 raised for the cause.

Now in its fifth year in Sydney, Marrickville’s Henson Park will host the likes of Triple J’s Matt and Alex, Federal MP and part-time DJ Anthony Albanese, rapper Urthboy, singer Rob ‘Millsy’ Mills, and former Sydney University NEAFL player turned voiceover artist, Kelvin Barnes.

The gates open from 12pm with the main-attraction starting at 2pm. There will also be food stalls, AFL 9s and musical entertainment across the day. Entry is a donation of $5 with all money raised going towards the Reclink Australia cause.
