RAMS demolish QLD at Nationals
The NSW/ACT RAMS thumped Queensland by 54 points in their division two showdown in round four of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships at Visy Park on Saturday.
NSW/ACT led from start to finish and opened up a 30-point lead at half-time before almost doubling the margin at full-time in the 12.7 (79) to 3.7 (25) demolition.
The RAMS jumped out to a handy 16-point buffer at quarter-time emphasised by Jack Lynch who kicked a terrific set-shot goal on the quarter-time siren to buoy his side.
They dominated proceedings in the second quarter and for the remainder of the game as they were able to discover some real firepower in the forward line.
It was an impressive all-round performance for the RAMS with the whole team playing their part to help the team record their first victory of the championships.
Although, there were some notable individual performances on the day. David Coward led the way in the midfield with 18 possessions, James Breust was a vital cog up forward with 16 touches and a goal while Sam Milne played a valuable team role.
Harry Cunningham also displayed his trademark line-breaking ability with 19 possessions and six inside-50s.
Winning the inside-50 count 40-25, NSW/ACT were efficient up forward and also showed great desire to pressure the opposition with 45 tackles to Queensland’s 35.
The RAMS got off to the best possible start with three straight goals while limiting Queensland to two solitary behinds.
From quarter-time, the RAMS kicked on with it to play their most consistent four-quarter performance of the championships kicking a further 9 goals for the game while reducing their opponents to just three majors.
The RAMS will be full of confidence heading into their final game of the championships against Northern Territory on Thursday, July 7.
