PSSA bringing the best together
School students from around the state will get a taste of life as AFL players when they travel to Sydney to take part in the NSW Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) carnival at Blacktown Olympic Park from May 17 to 19.
The statewide competition is the biggest primary school based sports carnival run by the PSSA, bringing over 300 of the state’s best footballers together for three days.
Over the course of the year schools have played one another in weekly PSSA matches in their respective regions.
The best players have then been chosen to represent their area at the state carnival and have the added excitement of playing at the home of the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
The week will provide a rare opportunity for the budding AFL players to travel together as a team and meet the stars of the Sydney Swans and Giants.
For kids who excel, there’s also the chance to be picked up by the newly formed club Academies.
Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Alan Pendleton said he is happy to see the event return to Sydney’s west for another year.
“Blacktown City is pleased to host the AFL PSSA Carnival for the second consecutive year at Blacktown Olympic Park’s first class AFL/Cricket Centre,” Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.
“The competition gives a great opportunity for those outside our City to experience Blacktown’s first class sporting facilities and what truly makes us a sporting city.
“With families travelling from 13 different regions the local economy is also set to benefit, making it a positive on all accounts.”
The following teams will take part in the event including Riverina, North Coast, South Coast, Barrier, Sydney East, Sydney North, Sydney West, Sydney South West, Hunter, Western, MacKIllop, Polding and CIS.
