Premiership stars visit Narrabeen AFL 9s
By Charlotte Mitchell
Sydney Swans veteran Jude Bolton and youngster Tom Mitchell visited AFL 9s competitions at Narrabeen Sports High on Monday, February 18 as part of the Australia Post Community Camps.
The Swans stars were on hand to sign guernseys, take photos, talk footy and give expert feedback from the sidelines as the local (and very star struck) AFL 9s teams took to the field.
The action saw the Swanabees play the Tigers, the Untouchables take on the Demons and the Northern Beaches Giants matched against Mixed Bag.
AFL 9s is a social, touch-only version of AFL football which is currently taking NSW and ACT by storm.
It is played outdoors on a rectangular field and requires the usual AFL skills, minus the tackling. Players can kick goals, lay off a quick handball and take a diving mark.
The Community Camp visit in Narrabeen was part of the 2013 Australia Post AFL Community Camps which kicked off back in December, and will see more than 800 AFL players take the game to regional and rural communities right across Australia.
AFL stars will carry out training sessions and visit schools, local football clubs, nursing homes and hospitals, to bring together individuals and communities, irrespective of backgrounds and beliefs, while promoting healthy lifestyles.
