Potential Izzy/Hunt showdown
The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS will be on the hunt for their sixth consecutive win this Saturday when they head north to take on the Gold Coast SUNS at Metricon Stadium for the first time.
The last time these two sides met was at Blacktown International Sportspark in early June with the GIANTS cleaning up the SUNS by an impressive 37 points.
GWS reporter Jessica Sheedy caught up with GIANT #16 Nathan Wilson to discuss the team’s preparation leading up to this week’s clash and how he thinks Izzy will go playing against fellow NRL recruit, Karmichael Hunt.
Nathan the GIANTS have had five wins in a row now, how confident is the playing group at the moment?
We are pretty pleased and confident, considering there have been a few boys out for the past couple of weeks. The boys are really looking forward to playing the SUNS in the Gold Coast this weekend.
How do you think the boys will go against the Gold Coast SUNS at Metricon Stadium, especially with some of the GIANTS’ key players out injured?
We have a lot of confidence heading into this week considering last time we played the SUNS we beat them by 37 points.
What will the team focus be heading into Saturday’s match?
I think the main focus will be about going out there and playing four quarters of consistent and good contested footy.
How do you feel heading to play at Metricon Stadium for the first time?
It is my first time going to the Gold Coast so I’m really looking forward to that. It will be good to go over there and have a look at their stadium and see what ours might start to look like in the next few years.
Your own game has really improved of late, what have you been working on individually?
I was playing in the backline for the first few months and now I’m playing up forward so I’m up their with Izzy and the boys helping them out. But really I have just been sticking to the team plan and team structures and getting a few goals while I’m at it, which has been good.
Karmichael Hunt is likely to play for the SUNS reserves on Saturday, how do you think Karmichael and Izzy will go playing against each other for the first time this season?
It will be really good to see the two old NRL boys up against each other, so hopefully they will match up on each other.
