Players to watch: Women’s Summer Series Round 2
Round two of the Women’s Summer Series gets underway this weekend.
This week it’s GIANTS v GIANTS, Swans v Swans and it will be an enthralling battle.
Here are four of the 120 players we think you should keep your eye out for.
Swans Red
April Devine
Nineteen-year-old April Devine is from Kempsey but treks 100 kilometres and further each way to play for Coffs Harbour Breakers.
Towering above many opponents with a big vertical leap, Devine is a dominant force in the ruck.
She can also play up forward and is renowned for her accurate set shot.
Swans White
Madeline Convery
Madeline Convery from Inner West Magpies is a hard-working wing/forward who maintains space and is efficient with her disposals.
She Prides herself on second and third efforts and will find the football throughout the game.
Convery is an important link-up player between the Arcs and will use the space she creates to her advantage
GIANTS Orange
Bryany Parker
Bryany Parker plays for the East Coast Eagles.
She’s an agile outside player who loves to carry the footy and break lines.
Parker’s elite soccer background has doubtless assisted with her agility. Combining this evasiveness with elite speed makes her a dangerous opponent.
GIANTS Charcoal
Kiarna Woolley-Blain
Kiarna Woolley-Blain had a huge first week of the Women’s Summer Series, booting four goals.
The 19-year-old Canberran, who plays for Tuggeranong Valley in AFL Canberra is also an elite javelin thrower who has competed internationally for Australia.
Standing at 170 centimetres, her power and speed is her greatest asset to the GIANTS Charcoal team which will be tested against Orange this week after both sides dominated their Swans opponents in Round 1.
