Party time as Auskick season kicks off

2012 Sydney Swans premiership player Nick Smith, along with teammate Gary Rohan, helped the kids, aged five to eight, develop their skills and ensured the day was a memorable one.

The event provided the opportunity for the children to develop not only their footy skills, but also their social skills.

“It acted as a real taste-tester for any kids who were curious about Auskick,” said Simon Wilson, Manager – Sydney/Illawarra Region.

“We were really pleased with the outcome; there was a lot of interest shown from the kids.”

The day kicked off with a presentation from Participation & Engagement Manager – Sydney/Illawarra Kieran Donohue to welcome kids and parents.

Donohue was joined on stage by Smith and Rohan, who shared their own fond memories of Auskick with the kids.

The level of excitement in the atmosphere at Centennial Park pointed to a growing enthusiasm for footy in NSW.

AFL NSW/ACT staff held a clinic to test the skills of the children and all kids were given a Play AFL showbag.

They also enjoyed the AFL fun zone, which included an inflatable football field, a jumping castle and other attractions that allowed the kids to have fun while interacting with one another.

It was a day enjoyed by all, and an overwhelming success, with one child even describing it as, “the best day of my life”.

The NAB AFL Auskick program provides boys and girls with a fun and safe football experience that serves as an introduction to a lifetime of involvement in the game.

The program is not just about introducing children to football but also encourages a healthy lifestyle and an association with AFL.
