The 15-year-old was one of the nine Australian rules players who joined 41 athletes from across Australia to participate in the AFL Talent Development’s National Multicultural Camp earlier this month.
Former Brisbane Lions star Chris Johnson ran the camp, where he conducted a series of activities and high performance testing, before a training session at North Melbourne Football Club.
The 50 footballers contended for one of 20 places in the 2013 World Team to compete at the AFL under- 16 national championships in Sydney in July.
Fijian-born Nolte said he was eagerly awaiting a phone call from the AFL regarding possible selection, but was confident in his high-performance stats.
I ran the 20m sprint in 3.10 secs, jumped 64cm in the vertical leap and 52cm for the running vertical leap. For my age that was above average so we’ll see how I go,’’ he said.
The half-forward flank was happy with his performance after gaining several touches and even kicking a goal in a trial game.
Until the East Hills Boys High School Year 10 student finds out his World Team future, he has AFL curtainraisers at the SCG and ANZ Stadium with the NSW Multicultural side to look forward to.
I’m pretty excited to get out there and play football on such prestigious grounds and hopefully in front of a bit of a crowd,’’ he said.
Nolte had a stint with the Giants academy and hopes to work his way up to a professional career.
“My dream is to go from the multicultural team into the Australian Institute of Sport and when I turn 18, play at a professional level or get into the GWS academy again,’’ he said.
