Mid-year grants, awards and recognition

Now winter is here, Australian rules football is in full swing across the ACT and NSW, with school programs, NAB AFL Auskick and local footy competitions firing!

This time of the year also brings a lot of offerings from the AFL as we continue to acknowledge, celebrate and participate in themes which go beyond the boundary, championing people and causes to build communities and shape footy clubs.

Below is a summary of just some of the awards, acknowledgements and celebrations you and your club can get involved in.

Don’t know where to start for the themed weeks? No worries!? The AFL has created a handy Themed Round Guide to give some examples of how to get your club involved in these and other causes.

Women’s Coaching MonthThe football community celebrates and recognises the contribution of women and girls in coaching roles across the country throughout Women’s Coaching Month, supported by BHP.   AFL NSW/ACT is hosting a special event for Women’s Coaching Month on 18 June at GIANTS HQ, the VAILO Community Centre, Olympic Park. Register here.

There’s also a social and digital toolkit to help you celebrate the women and girls who coach at your club. Access it here.
Pride MonthPride Month is a global annual event that recognises and celebrates the journey of people within the LGBTQI+ community and promotes equal rights for all.   International Pride Day is 28 June, so this could be a good starting point for a date.

Ideas on how to celebrate a Pride Round at your club begins on page 14 of the Themed Round Guide.
