McGlynn notches his 100th game

Growing up in the small country town of Dareton in western New South Wales, Ben McGlynn just wanted to play in the AFL.

It’s been a bumpy road that has taken seven years and two different clubs; but this weekend the Sydney Swans small forward will notch up his 100th AFL game.

Now an integral part of the Swans line-up in their push for finals, McGlynn was once fighting his way from VFL football to an AFL rookie list before playing 44 games in four years at Hawthorn.

Looking for more game time and a secure future, the 27-year-old made the move to the Harbour City and hasn’t taken a backwards step, playing 55 games since 2010.

“It was a childhood dream to play and obviously at VFL level I didn’t really think that I could make it,” McGlynn said.

“I was fortunate enough to get a pre-season at Hawthorn and then impressed enough to get a rookie list spot.

“Now I’m grateful that Sydney gave me the opportunity to come up here and play regular senior footy and I’m glad that I’m running out this weekend for the Swans.”
