The 15-year-old from Narooma, NSW, recently represented his state in the under-15 National Championships in Perth.
Essendon Recruiting Officer Merve Keane says Clothier is an impressive player who will receive tuition from the club for the next three years before it is decided whether he will be placed on the senior or rookie list.
“He is a 185cm midfielder who has a huge engine and a great attitude and work ethic. He is a run-all-day type of player and is highly motivated and very driven,” Keane said.
“We saw him play in some regional matches in NSW and from there we spoke to him and recruited him under the Scholarship Program.
“Jedd is entering a period where people are now starting to take notice of him. He has competed against the best 15-year-old school boys from around the country and has been chosen in the best 22 in Australia.”
Clothier is a member of the inaugural James Hird Academy program at the Essendon Football Club. The James Hird Academy aims to identify and develop potential father-son recruits and young players from non-traditional AFL areas interstate and overseas.
James Hird will act as a mentor to the Academy members which includes an impressive list of proud Essendon names.
