Henty’s Nick Murray to debut against Sydney this weekend

Henty’s Nick Murray is set to make his AFL debut against Sydney at the SCG this weekend.

Hailing from Southern New South Wales, Murray joined the Adelaide’s list 18 days ago as a rookie via the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period.

He played in both pre-season games against Port Adelaide but was unavailable for the Club’s season opener.

Last year the former Murray Bushrangers co-captain was planning to play with Williamstown in the VFL before Covid-19 hit and he returned to NSW where he played mainly as a forward for Ganmain Grong Grong Matong in the Riverina Football League, booting 12 goals from seven games including a bag of four against the Wagga Tigers.

Senior Coach Matthew Nicks said Murray didn’t hold back his excitement when he was told the news of his debut.

“He’s one that doesn’t hide his emotion, he enjoyed it, the boys got around him,” Nicks told afc.com.au.

“Probably took him a bit by surprise straight after training.

“It’s a good chance to get his family over and it’s an exciting time for him.”
