Griffith’s new AFL posts a hit
Griffith’s second set of new AFL goal posts this year have been installed at Apex Park and have already proved a hit with locals.
The posts were only put in yesterday but by the afternoon there were a number of kids making full use of the new AFL sticks.
Participation rates in Griffith have soared in the last five years – up 42 percent – and going forward there are plans to install new posts and upgrade facilities at other grounds.
With the establishment of the Griffith GIANTS this year, AFL is on the rise in city.
AFL NSW/ACT regional manager Jason McPherson said it’s fantastic to see the rapid development of AFL in Griffith.
“Through the outstanding work of the Griffith Council and AFL NSW/ACT the community now has another new set of AFL goal posts they can use,” McPherson said.
“Australian football has grown significantly in the area in recent years and the AFL plans to cater to the growing interest in the game by assisting with new posts, grounds and facilities.
“These posts will also be used by St Pats Public School and the local community which has widespread benefits for kids and adults alike in and around Griffith.”
