GIANTS reach 5000 members
The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have topped more than 5000 members as they aim to reach a new high in 2013.
Head Coach Kevin Sheedy congratulated everyone who had signed up already and urged fans to get on board.
“This has been a fantastic effort and it’s really heartening to see the support we have out there,” the legendary coach said.
“2013 promises to be a really exciting year for the club and I know the players and myself can’t wait for the season to start.
“We now want to get to 6000 members by Christmas and then eventually go past this year’s number of 10,000. I can’t think of a better Christmas present than a GIANTS membership in 2013.”
Sheedy also went on twitter to urge women to join. “We especially want all the women of Western Sydney to join the GIANTS. We love women – I even married one!” he tweeted.
The GWS GIANTS will head to Canberra on Tuesday to promote the game in one of the GIANTS’ heartlands.
They will kick off the 2012/2013 AFL Community Camps in Canberra with the entire GIANTS squad on hand to carry out training sessions and visit schools, local football clubs, nursing homes and hospitals.
GIANTS co-captain Phil Davis said the players were looking forward to the opportunity to meet local fans and members in Canberra in the lead up to the 2013 season.
“Canberra is the home of the GIANTS and it’s a great chance for all of us to get out in the community and engage with our supporters,” Davis said.
“It’s important for us to take the time to visit local schools and hospitals, do clinics with kids and give back to the people that make this game great and hopefully have some fun along the way.”
