Giant strides in Sydney’s west

Around 80 kids were introduced to footy through a successful multicultural program conducted by AFL NSW/ACT at Roberts Park in Greenacre.

The four-week initiative was such a hit among participants it was extended for another four weeks and a group of children made the transition to their local club Bankstown Sports.

An Auskick centre is also on the horizon for the local community given the enthusiastic response to the program.

The parents involved frequently attended due to the central location of the ground enhancing the strong sense of community.

GWS Development Officer David Hook was delighted with the outcome and said he couldn’t have done it on his own.

“We had great support from the Lebanese Muslim Association who cooked a barbecue for everyone during our final week,” Hook said.

“They helped bridge the language gap which can be a challenge.”
