Free club development workshops
In June, AFL NSW/ACT will be conducting a number of free and practical workshops focussed on club development. With the football season underway, now is a great time to devote your committee’s attention to areas of governance and administration.
Clubs are invited to the following sessions:
Creating cultural change
This workshop will provide your club with information about a range of programs that can help change the culture at your club around the social issues of alcohol, illicit drugs and creating safe and inclusive environments for women. It will provide practical information on how you can go about affecting cultural change at your club by implementing some simple strategies.

AFL Educational Programs Manager, AFL Melbourne
Claire Waterman is the AFL Education Program Manager and is responsible for implementing a number of education programs for state and community football clubs over the next two years. She is a criminologist and previously worked for Victoria Police in the areas of sexual assault, family violence and illicit drugs.

Club strategy – planning your club’s future
Do you know the direction that your club is heading in and what your goals are? Well run businesses have strategic business plans so make sure your club sport has one too! This practical workshop is ideal for Club Presidents and the decision makers plus anyone else who is interested in strategic business planning for your Club. You’ll leave with goals and strategies that you can put into practice the next day.
Facilitator:
Julie Stafford, NSW, Sports Federation
Julie is the Education Coordinator at NSW Sports Federation. She is passionate about sport and education and has had over 20 years experience teaching and lecturing in sport management and physical education. She has taught at most major Universities in Sydney.

Successfully recruit and manage your volunteers
Volunteers are hard to find and even harder to keep. This workshop provides practical tips on how to recruit, retain and reward volunteers. Learn what motivates your volunteer workforce, what they want in return and what simple techniques you can use to improve the volunteer experience at your club. You will also hear from representatives of Sydney-based senior and junior clubs regarding how they have successfully managed volunteers at their clubs.

Andrew Knott and Kirsty Moon are Community Football Managers with AFL NSW/ACT. Together they have been providing support to leagues and clubs around the state with respect to their governance and administration.

Facility development
This workshop will provide clubs with an in-depth understanding of the variety of works and processes that need to be completed to ensure a successful and smooth facility development process. An excellent physical environment can add enormous value to a club’s recruitment of players and volunteers.

Anthony is the Facility Development Officer at AFL NSW/ACT. He is adept at building relationships with clubs to develop a working group which strategically plan, source funding and deliver improved facilities.

Media and marketing opportunities with the Swans and Giants
This workshop will address simple media and marketing principles and activities that can increase your exposure and attract/retain players. It will also look at ways that AFL NSW/ACT can support your activities and club representatives will be available from the Sydney Swans and the Giants to highlight further opportunities that the elite clubs can provide.
When: Wednesday 29th June 6:30 – 8pm

Representatives from the Swans and Giants will also attend.
Rebecca, Jordan and Tina form part of the media and marketing team at AFL NSW/ACT. They are responsible for promoting all aspects of football development across the state and working with the Swans and Giants to maximise promotion of AFL in our market
