Each of these players featured in 2022’s Women’s Summer Series, which AFL NSW/ACT staged to ensure aspiring talent had the opportunity to be noticed. We are proud to report that at least 15 players who participated in the Series is now on an AFLW list.

,

The supplementary draft could feature only players born in 2004 or prior. It was designed as a stop-gap measure after two seasons were held in 2022 due to the competition’s re-alignment from summer to spring.

The majority of the best 2004-born talent, such as Montana Ham and Zarlie Goldsworthy, was already selected in the draft last June, before the second season (Season 7) of last year.

Pick 9: Maddy Hendrie – Carlton (also main image)

What AFL NSW/ACT says: Maddy is a versatile, athletic utility type who can play a number of roles. Launches at the ball in marking contests. She has seen ongoing improvement and will benefit from an elite environment.

What Carlton says: Hendrie is a key position tall who has featured for the Allies, the Sydney Swans Academy and most recently the Western Bulldogs’ VFLW team, the 19-year-old displays strong overhead marking ability, allowing her to shine in a number of positions.

Just as capable of pushing forward as she is providing a supporting hand in the ruck, Hendrie’s versatility is her strong suit, as is her natural athleticism: she has a background in state athletics, including high jump and cross-country running. They’re two skills which the 180cm ruck uses to good effect, impressing for the Allies in the 2021 national carnival. She has demonstrated an ability to also play as a key defender, but her pace and leap makes her a natural understudy to All-Australian ruck, Brea Moody.

Pick 11: Dom Carruthers – Western Bulldogs

What AFL NSW/ACT says: Dom is a hardworking and tenacious, and ruthlessly attacks the ball. A tough competitor, she reads the ball well inside and out so accumulates plenty of possessions week after week. Part of her success is her big engine which will only grow under AFLW guidance.

What Western Bulldogs says: Let her HIGHLIGHTS do the talking!

.

Pick 13: Eleri Morris – Collingwood

What AFL NSW/ACT says: Eleri is a forward who presents and competes well. Her quality skills are matched with her good game sense.

What Collingwood says: A New South Wales product, Morris previously spent time with the GWS Giants Academy program. Last year, the forward booted 19 goals across her 13 games for the Inner West Magpies in the AFL Sydney League. Away from football, the 26-year-old is currently serving as a Marine Engineer in the Royal Australian Navy.

Pick 15: Georgie Jaques – Port Adelaide

What AFL NSW/ACT says: Georgie is a versatile tall who loves the contest. She marks ball well and quickly adapts to varying roles and game situations. She’s a clean ball handler who can kick multiple goals.

What Port Adelaide says: Jaques, who originally hails from Canberra, was born into the Port Adelaide family as the daughter of 1998 SANFL Premiership player Daniel Jaques.  As a young Indigenous woman, Jaques is committed to connecting with her culture, and joins fellow Indigenous athletes Stewart, Gemma Houghton and the Cockatoo-Motlap twins at Port Adelaide. Playing for Norwood in the SANFLW this season, Jaques relocated from Canberra to challenge herself in one of the country’s best state league competitions. The 19-year-old is a mature, developing tall who can play in the ruck or as a defender.
