Community Legend: Jack Cedelland
The term ‘club stalwart’ is one most people in community football are familiar with.
No one knows this to be truer than the Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Football Club in the Riverina Football Netball League.
The club has their own dedicated ‘club stalwart’ in this week’s Community Legend, Jack Cedelland.
Jack first connected with Ganmain (who later became Ganmain Grong Grong Matong) as a player in 1964.
With a football career spanning more than 20 seasons, Jack boasts an impressive 320 game playing record.
It should come at no real surprise that Cedelland has had a quite a taste of success; winning premierships in the Under 19 squad (1965), the Reserves (1968) and in First Grade (1969).
Ten years on, Cedelland was rewarded for his on-field success as the winner of the Reserve grade’s best and fairest for the 1979 season.
In 1980, Jack took on a role in the club’s committee and has played an active part in the club’s management to this very day.
He is currently filling the all-important role of Club Secretary, with 2015 the 25th consecutive season he has held the position.
In his time as Secretary, Ganmain Grong Grong Matong has played in 11 first grade Grand Finals, winning nine premierships.
Along the way Jack has been made a life member of Ganmain Grong Grong Matong (1983), recognized as the club’s Person of the Year (1983 & 2012) and the Riverina Football Netball League Volunteer of the Year (2010).
Jack’s ongoing commitment to the club has not gone unnoticed.
He was made a life member of Ganmain Grong Grong Matong in 1983, and was recognized as the club’s Person of the Year in both 1983 and 2012.
He was also awarded the Riverina Football Netball League Volunteer of the Year in 2010.
Community football clubs survive and prosper due to the hard work and dedication of committed volunteers.
After over 50 years at his club, it would be hard to find someone more committed than Jack Cedelland.
