Citi Corporate lunch – with Longmire
Before his coaching days with the Sydney Swans, John Longmire was a key part of one the most successful football teams ever to grace the field.
The North Melbourne team he played for during the 1990s made seven preliminary finals, three grand finals, and was triumphant in two premierships in 1996 and 1999.
At the helm for that success was Denis Pagan, who coached Longmire from 1993 until his fairy-tail swansong in the 1999 premiership.
Longmire recalls Pagan as one of the most driven men he has encountered in football.
“His record really speaks for itself. To achieve the level of success he did in my time at North Melbourne is an incredible feat,” Longmire said.
“He was driven, fearsome, but one of the really outstanding qualities he had was his sense of humour.”
The theme for this year’s annual Sydney Swans Citi Corporate Lunch, to be held on Friday July 22, is ‘A Lunch with John’.
During the Lunch, Longmire will be joined by Pagan and long-time friend and former teammate Liam Pickering, to recount their successful years at North Melbourne.
As Longmire guides the Swans in his debut year as senior coach, Pagan and Pickering promise to reveal more about the Longmire they got to know on and off the field during a successful playing career that yielded 511 goals.
“What I do know about Liam is that he is an A-grade smart-aleck, so I’m a bit nervous as to what he will have in store for me at the lunch,” Longmire said.
“Pickers and I used to live together but I didn’t see much of him because he spent most of his time playing reserves!”
With great guests, and entertainment courtesy of comedian Anh Do, this year’s Citi Lunch is not to be missed.
