Cameron king of the kids
The 20 year-old has kicked 60 goals in just his second AFL season to be joint equal leader in the Coleman Medal with two rounds to play and is widely tipped to be in contention for All-Australian selection.
Cameron, who debuted for the GIANTS last year, will help promote participation in the game across NSW and the ACT, including the NAB AFL Auskick program.
GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said it was a great opportunity for Cameron and the game in New South Wales and the ACT.
“Jeremy Cameron is not just an outstanding player, he is also an outstanding young man. He is quickly generating a tremendous following, particularly among young fans and he is ideally suited for this important role,” Matthews said.
“We are seeing more and more kids wearing his number 18 jumper and he is a great example of a young player who has risen through junior ranks in regional Australia and is now starring in our game.”
AFL NSW/ACT General Manager Tom Harley said Cameron would be a wonderful ambassador for the young players across the region.
“We’re really looking forward to working with Jeremy in his new role as an AFL Junior Football Ambassador,” Harley said.
“He has a fantastic rapport with kids and is a terrific role model for the young, aspiring participants of the game in NSW and the ACT.
“Over the past couple of decades Sydney has been spoilt with great full forwards from Tony Lockett to Barry Hall and I think Jeremy will follow their lead and become a much-loved household name in years to come.”
Cameron said he was delighted to take on a role to help promote the game in two key areas for the GIANTS in NSW and the ACT.
“We know participation in our game in New South Wales and Canberra is growing, particularly at junior level and we want as many kids playing and enjoying AFL and pursuing their dream,” he said.
“The game has given me some fantastic opportunities including the chance to meet lots of different people and form lifelong friendships.
“I want to thank the AFL for this opportunity and I look forward to getting around NSW and the ACT and sharing this great game with kids everywhere.”
