One set of twins is a nice surprise, two could be considered a coincidence, but when six sets recently turned up for registration at East Sydney Bulldogs AFL club, coaches concluded there must have been something in the water.
“It’s the only explanation we could come up with,” laughed club president Marelle Sharpe.
“There are six sets of twins in our Auskick teams and eight sets in total across the whole club. It’s certainly the first time we’ve seen something like this.”
Meanwhile the club, which had just 33 Auskick players in 2005, is almost bursting at the seams with more than 150 signed up for the coming season, and a waiting list for even more eager players.
“We’re all about having that community feel at the club and that seems to be an attraction,” Ms Sharpe said.
For young players who missed out on a spot in the Auskick program, the Bulldogs and AFL NSW/ACT have launched Sunday morning training sessions.
