Amartey seeing huge growth of AFL first-hand

The Sydney Swans have spread out for school visits all over the harbour city, greeting assemblies, running footy clinics, signing autographs and taking snaps to the delight of thousands of students.

Asquith Public School in the north, Taren Point Public School in the south and Leichardt Public School in the inner west were just some of the schools the Swans visited late last month.

Joel Amartey, who Sydney drafted as a rookie ahead of season 2018, believes Australian rules football has grown enormously even in his brief time at the club.

“Coming into what’s now my third year of school visits, I think compared to my first year, there would be close to double the amount of kids playing the game,” Amartey said.

“I’ve seen first-hand just how quickly footy in NSW is growing.

“Whenever we get the opportunity to step out into the community, it’s a great chance to give a little back and get kids playing Aussie rules.”
