AFLW set for a GIANT return to Manuka Oval
THE AFL is pleased to announce the fixture for Round Six of the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Competition which will see the GWS GIANTS return to Canberra for the first time since 2019.
After no AFL or AFLW action in the nation’s capital in 2020, the GIANTS’ AFLW side will return to Manuka Oval on Saturday, March 6.
The GIANTS will host the Brisbane Lions at 3.10pm, with tickets will available via Ticketek on Thursday with AFLW members able to access their free ticket from 11am and tickets available for the general public from 12pm.The GIANTS’ AFL side was originally scheduled to take on the Lions in the AAMI Community Series on Sunday, March 7, but due to the AFL’s approach to managing the risks around COVID, they have made changes to the fixture to ensure all teams remain in their home state ahead of the opening round.
AFL General Manager Women’s Football Nicole Livingstone said the league would continue to take the advice of governments and health officials and work closely with each stakeholder across the competition as it worked through fixtures for upcoming rounds.
“We will continue to remain adaptable as we listen to and work closely with each stakeholder to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone in the game,” Livingstone said.
“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority and we remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner led by respective governments, public health officials and medical experts.
“The round six fixture will see the league continue to best manage the risks around COVID by minimising travel where possible and ensuring minimal disruption for the competition as we navigate the 2021 season.”
