Shoosh for Kids campaign launches

AFL NSW/ACT has partnered with the Office of Sport for the Shoosh for Kids Week campaign.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage Clubs to create safe and supportive environments for kids playing sport, and to promote positive sideline behaviour.

Running from the 15-21 May 2017, the campaign hopes to encourage all parents of junior AFL players to support the cause.

AFL NSW/ACT joins other regional sporting organisations such as Basketball NSW, Country Rugby League, Football NSW, Hockey NSW, Netball NSW, and NSW Rugby Union in collaborating with the Office of Sport to deliver the campaign.

AFL NSW/ACT CEO, Sam Graham says promoting the campaign, along with other organisations, ensures there is a consistent message across grassroots sport.

“We want junior games to be a positive and happy place for kids to enjoy themselves while being active,” said Graham.

Currently, the Bathurst Bushrangers, Parramatta Lions, and Ulladulla Dockers Junior AFL Clubs have signed up to the campaign.

Office of Sport Chief Executive, Matt Miller highlights the importance of the campaign, considering the impact junior sport has on our communities. Miller says that it is vital to ensure that all players, officials and spectators have a positive experience while playing sport.

“We want everyone, especially children, to continue their involvement in sport because it’s a fun and encouraging environment for everyone,” said Miller.

“Most people do the right thing. However, the sports we are working with want to remind spectators that there is no place for negative comments in local sport.”
