AFL Sydney’s record team nominations
A record number of team nominations have been received by AFL Sydney for the 2012 season.
Sixty-two senior teams have nominated across six divisions. This is an increase of three from 2011.
Included among the nominations are two new clubs who have nominated a single team.
These clubs are Gosford Wildcats who have transferred across from the Black Diamond AFL, while the Blacktown Magic will field a team for the first time.
The Magic have been established by the AFL as a means of engaging the Blacktown region to provide a pathway from community-run programs to senior football.
There is similar growth in the Under-18 age group, with a record twenty-two nominations being received for the two divisions.
Nor West and Saints afc will also be fielding Under-18s teams for the first time.
AFL Sydney Football Operations Manager, Garry Burkinshaw, highlighted the efforts of the clubs in achieving this feat.
“This is a fantastic result which reflects positively on the work being done by AFL Sydney clubs and also the health of the AFL Sydney competitions,” Burkinshaw said.
The competition structure will be finalised at the AFL Sydney Planning Meeting on Monday 28 November, 2011. More details will be available on www.aflnswact.com.au then.
