AFL Sydney Women’s Round 10 Preview
The AFL Sydney Women’s competition continues this weekend with three of the five matches to be played at Mahoney Park on Saturday.
The first clash sees second-placed Newtown take on Auburn who are currently tenth on the ladder. Newtown won well last weekend keeping UTS Shamrocks scoreless in the process. Georgia Verkuylen was again best for the Breakaways. Auburn will face a tough ask rebounding considering they were kept scoreless themselves against the Western Wolves.
The match of the round could well be between Wollongong and Western Wolves. Both sides registered century-plus wins last round. The Wolves were well-served by Kate Lawson with four goals, while Wollongong have Shellee Gibson and Yvette Lewis in strong form.
It is a case of first versus last with Balmain aiming to keep their unbeaten record intact against the Penrith Ramettes. Balmain come off the bye while Penrith struggled in the wet conditions against Wollongong.
In the remaining matches, UTS Shamrocks will be in search of their second win of the campaign against a Macquarie University side aiming to keep in touch with the top five, while at Village Green another close match could eventuate between UNSW/ES and Sydney University.
