AFL NSW/ACT Academy Series Round 3 Review

The Sydney Swans and the GWS GIANTS U18 Academy sides played out another nail-biter on Saturday but it was the Swans who once again pinched a narrow victory at Kippax Oval in Canberra.

The Swans Academy team won a 1-point thriller with a goal on the siren in their previous encounter and inaccurate kicking meant the GIANTS fell agonisingly short 9.2 (56) to 6.17 (53) in the final game of the series.

Jack Hardman from Warners Bay AFC kicked four goals to help the Swans sweep the series 3-0.

It was also a tense affair in the U16s with the two teams unable to be separated at the siren.

The 11.18 (84) draw means the GIANTS win the best of three series 2-0.

It was another impressive win for the GIANTS against the Swans in the second and final U18 Youth Girls Academy game.

Even though the final margin was 70-points, the contest was a lot closer than what the score suggests.

The GIANTS made the most of their opportunities in front of goal to finish comfortable 11.8 (74) to 0.4 (4) winners.

Jacqueline Gay had another excellent day, kicking two goals to backup her three-goal effort in Game One.

Hannah Stewart was also impressive adding two goals of her own.

The GIANTS won the series 2-0 and now the girls’ attention turns to selection in the U18 NSW/ACT state team that will be announced this week.

The selected girls will head into camp in Wagga Wagga on April 15 to finalise preparations for the National Championships in Melbourne in May.
