AFL lights up Drummoyne

The Drummoyne Power and Canada Bay Cannons Under-13s joint venture defeated the Mosman/Willoughby Swans under the new lights in front of other junior sporting clubs.
Canada Bay Mayor, Angelo Tzirekas was on hand with Reid MP John Murphy and Regional Development and Local Government Minister, Anthony Albanese who praised the additions.
“Large numbers of Australians watch and participate in sport and the Drummoyne Oval has seen many a match, having been used for junior matches since 1892,” Mr. Albanese said.
The 50-metre light towers were just one of the new additions which included a digital scoreboard and grandstand.
“It was outstanding, the clarity of the light was sensational and the conditions on the field that night were just very special,” said Drummoyne/Canada Bay coach Anthony McNamara.
The aim of the re-development was to enable games to be played at night and the ground of broadcast standard.
The state and federal governments, Canada Bay council, Cricket NSW and AFL NSW/ACT were among the stakeholders who funded the development.
