2014 Community Multicultural Ambassadors
AFL NSW/ACT is pleased to announce the naming of fourteen AFL Multicultural Community Ambassadors for 2014, including the 2013 National Multicultural Ambassador of the Year winner Sue Yeon (pictured) from Greystanes in Sydney’s west.
Ms Yeon said she is proud of the role she is playing in connecting people in her community with Australia’s Game.
“As an AFL ambassador, I have enjoyed gaining personal recognition from the AFL and the community, while promoting AFL to people in my own Korean community.”
There has been an increase in the number of ambassadors from New South Wales this year, with representatives from across the state involved in the program.
The AFL this week announced 183 multicultural community leaders from around Australia will join the AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador program in 2014.
The aim of the AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador Program is to further engage multicultural communities in Australian football through a network of dedicated volunteers.
AFL General Manager, People, Customer and Community Dorothy Hisgrove said the ambassadors will represent the many diverse cultures in Australia with a record number of volunteers this year from all states and territories.
“Since its introduction in 2013, the AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador program continues to attract widespread national interest and will more than double in size in 2014 with over 180 ambassadors appointed, representing 44 countries of birth, 65 nationalities and around 100 languages.
“The AFL would like to thank the ambassadors for volunteering their time and for their commitment to growing the game.
“Each ambassador has been selected based on their community leadership skills and enthusiasm to share their passion for AFL with diverse communities, using Australian football as a vehicle for engagement and inclusion,” said Ms. Hisgrove.
The program will provide community leaders with an official platform to become involved in the introduction and coordination of AFL related programs in their communities as well as opportunities for professional development, including the chance to win a national award which recognises the ambassador of the year.
Ambassadors will attend an induction session in each state over the next couple of weeks before commencing their roles during the Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
