Round 16 of the NEAFL features two games involving NSW/ACT sides. The Canberra Demons host the Southport Sharks, while the GWS GIANTS take on the Sydney Swans in the NEAFL Sydney Derby.

The Demons are coming off the back of a disappointing loss to Sydney University. They were completely outplayed by the Students and will be looking for more physicality in an attempt to get their season back on track.

They have made three changes to their side to face the Sharks as Reed Stevens, Jack Powell and Kade Klemke come into the team.

Stevens has had an impressive season to date, and has punched well above his 17 years. The youngster was Canberra’s Rising Star winner last year and is an important inclusion for this weekend.

Christian Palombi is injured, while Donald Roberts and Billy Muir have both been omitted. Palombi is a member of the GWS GIANTS Academy and has been very impressive in his first season in the NEAFL.

Spotless Stadium hosts the Sydney Derby on Saturday afternoon, as two teams who have had very different seasons come together. The table-topping Swans face the GIANTS who are languishing at the bottom of the ladder.

The GIANTS NEAFL season has been a season filled with mass-changes week-in week-out, and round 16 is no different. They have made 15 changes for their side to face the Swans, welcoming back some experienced players along the way.

Isaac Cumming, Tendai Mzungu and Daniel Lloyd all return after featuring for the GIANTS’ AFL side. Mzungu and Lloyd both played in last-week’s heart-stopping draw to Hawthorn down in Launceston.

The Swans also welcome back a lot of AFL-level experience. Kurt Tippett has been named to play his first game in over a month after an ankle injury. He is joined by Will Hayward who is also returning from injury through the NEAFL.

Jordan Foote and Oliver Florent are also in the side for the Swans, two players who have impressed all season at NEAFL level.

Impressive defender Colin O’Riordan has been ruled out for the clash and has been replaced by Academy member, Cooper Lee.
