Multicultural Programs in Schools

AFL NSW/ACT is committed to growing the game within our diverse communities. Several programs have been developed for schools with a high portion of students from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds (NESB).

The primary and high school programs are listed below:

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAM – Multicultural School Program (MSP)

The MSP aims to engage primary schools with 70% or more students from NESB across the state. The six week program runs all year round and focuses on football activities which build on the child’s fine and gross motor skills. The program also incorporates themes around fair play, team work, harmony and leadership.

Delivered by AFL staff who are culturally sensitive and aware, this program is about breaking down barriers and giving students from NESB the opportunities to participate and support Australian Football.

The program is offered to primary schools at a subsidised rate and includes a football for each student.

If you require further information on the MSP, please contact the Multicultural Programs Manager on 02 8333 8024.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM – Intensive English Centre Program (IEC)

The IEC program is offered to all IEC schools across NSW/ACT. Essentially the program offers newly arrived migrants and refugee young people the opportunity to learn the basics about Australia Football.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM – Enrichment Program

The six week enrichment program is offered to young people in high schools who are potentially at risk of being disengaged from school. Areas of focus are identified by teachers and lessons are built around topics such as trust, team play, goal setting and respect.
