Sydney Schools Start Paul Kelly Cup

Future Sydney Swans champions were on show in Sydney as they competed in the Paul Kelly Cup.

The very same competition that current Sydney co-captain Kieren Jack was discovered in.

Plenty of goals were kicked by both the boys and the girls with the Drummoyne (Boys) and Dulwich Hill (Girls), coming out victors in the Inner West region.

The cup has a rich history, not only was Kieren Jack exposed; it is named after Captain Courageous, Swans legend Paul Kelly, Brownlow medal winner and captain of the Swans for 10 years.

The Paul Kelly Cup is a NSW-wide AFL tournament for boys and girls in years 5 and 6.

The AFL encouraged primary school kids from every school in NSW/ACT to take part in the cup.

The competition consists of smaller 12 a side teams that compete in a round robin carnival, providing kids that are new to the game a safe avenue to learn how to play AFL football.

Each side plays 3 games each in the gala day with the top teams progressing in the cup.

Winning teams progress to the regional final, then the state final at Blacktown Olympic Park.
