AFL Draft Combine Player Review: Nick Shipley

GWS GIANTS Academy member, Nick Shipley turned heads at last week’s 2017 NAB AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne.

Attending alongside his Allies teammates, Shipley produced two top ten results against the best up-and-coming players from across Australia.

Taking part in trials designed to test their mental and physical fitness, Campbelltown’s Shipley excelled in the speed and endurance events held across the three day Combine.

Testing as a part of the medium-sized midfielders, Shipley’s best event was the new ‘Yo-Yo Run’ – similar to the famous Beep Test – where he hit level 21.6, ranking eighth overall.

Shipley was also impressive during the Smartspeed 20m Spirnt where he ran tenth at 2.87 seconds.

Capping off what was a successful week for the 18-year-old, Shipley was named the GWS GIANTS Academy Player of the Year at their Kevin Sheedy Medal presentation on Friday night.

The 2017 NAB AFL Draft will take place on 24 November 2017 at Sydney Olympic Park.
