The Under-18 trials will kick-off in April with two trial days taking place in Canberra and Blacktown to determine those who will make the final state program.

The final state Rams side will then be invited to a training camp in Coffs Harbour in May. While in Coffs Harbour, the team will take on the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Academies in further trial matches ahead of the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Under-18 Championships.

Mimicking the 2018 schedule, the Rams will play Tasmania twice in Blacktown for Round 1 of the Championships.

For the second year in a row, a hybrid AFL NSW/ACT and Tasmanian side will be selected to form the Eastern Allies who will take on the other states in Round 2 of the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Under-18 Championships on the Gold Coast in July.

The Under-16 program will see all the Regional Academies compete at the ‘Academy Games’ in mid-April with a two match Female Academy Series to follow. From this internal series, the final Under-16 AFL NSW/ACT Rams side will be selected to play Vic Metro in Albury on the June Long Weekend.

Coaches for the state squads are set to be announced soon.

AFL NSW/ACT Female Talent Manager, Ash Moeller says he is excited for a big year ahead.

“The localised academy model is providing development for a larger group of girls than ever before,” says Moeller.

“The academy programs are providing a high focus on the key fundamentals of the game and we look forward to seeing the skill level increase across the board.

“Next year promises to be an exciting year in the female talent space with greater opportunities provided to play at a higher level than in previous years.”
