Allies claim heart-stopper against the Vics

The Allies have taken out their first win of the 2019 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships with victory over Vic Metro.

Playing at GMHBA Stadium – home of the Geelong Cats – the Allies took it to their more-fancied opponents, leading at every break.

Though only a one-point difference by half-time, the Allies put the foot down in the third, going into the final term with a 23-point buffer.

But it would be the Vics who would come to play after the break, determined to gain the lead ahead of the final siren. They kicked four goals to the Allies’ one in the last term, but it would not be enough. The Allies won the game by two points.

Superb defence from Sydney Swans Academy Member, Luke Parks and dogged determination from the GIANTS Academy’s Tom Green would see the Allies get over the line.

Swans Academy players, Errol Gulden and Hamish Ellem put two goals on the scoreboard each, with Green contributing one of his own.

The Allies now face South Australia on Wednesday, July 3 at Marvel Stadium in the final match of the Championships.
