South Australia topple Allies in Adelaide

The Allies have continued their tough start to the NAB AFL U18 Championships, going down to South Australia by 51 points at Adelaide Oval.

The visitors were slow out of the blocks, putting only one goal on the board in the opening term through Sydney Swans Academy player, James Bell.

After goals from GWS GIANTS Academy’s Jack Powell and Nathan Richards, the Allies caught up to South Australia in the second, seeing just one-point separating the two teams at half-time.

However, unlike last week’s match against Vic Country, the Allies were unable to keep pace with their opponents following the main break.

It was South Australia who pounced in the third term, adding six goals to the Allies’ one-behind in a match defining quarter.

Despite the efforts of GWS GIANTS Academy players, Nick Shipley (22 disposals) and Tom Highmore (17 disposals), and a better final term, the Allies were unable to peg back the margin built in the third.

The Allies will be looking for their first win of the Championships next weekend when they take on Western Australia in Perth on 25 June 2017 at 12.30pm.
