Locals selected for AFL Women’s Draft Combine

The AFL has released the names of players invited to the 2017 NAB AFL Women’s Draft Combine, which will be held at Etihad Stadium on 3-4 October 2017.

Four players from New South Wales have been selected to attend including Nicky Steel (Mosman Swans), Chloe Arndt (East Coast Eagles), Ellie Dalgarno-Fixter (Riverina Lons) and Haneen Zreika (Auburn Giants).

The Draft Combine will assess the players’ fitness and skills ahead of the NAB AFL Women’s Draft, which will be held on 18 October.

Forty-seven players have been identified by the clubs from the NAB AFL Women’s Under-18 Championships and senior state league competitions.

The AFLW draft combine is a fantastic way for players to test themselves against the best players in the country and gain extra experience and knowledge.

AFL NSW/ACT Coaching Development Manager, Tim Schmidt says this is a big opportunity for those selected to show those in the know, their skills.

“The NAB AFL AFL Women’s Draft Combine is a fantastic way for players to test themselves against the best players in the country, and to gain extra experience and knowledge,” said Schmidt.

“To have four AFL NSW/ACT players attend the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Draft Combine is fantastic for female football in New South Wales and the ACT, and shows that we are continuing to grow and develop quality players.”

Acting AFL Football Operations Manager, Andrew Dillon said this is another first for women’s football.

“This is the first time female players will attend a Draft Combine and this is the final piece of the NAB AFL Women’s Rising Stars Program,” he said.

“All eight AFLW clubs will be in attendance and will have the opportunity to interview players ahead of the NAB AFL Women’s Draft.”
