Gum Runner-Up, three locals named All Australians

Courtney Gum has finished as the equal runner-up Best and Fairest at the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Awards in Melbourne overnight.

Western Bulldogs Premiership player, Emma Kearny took home the coveted prize with 15 votes overall, while Gum, Dana Hooker (Fremantle) and 2018 NAB AFLW Rising Star winner, Chloe Molloy (Collingwood) finished equal second on nine votes.

Three GWS GIANTS players and coaches were also named in the 2018 Virgin Australian AFL Women’s All Australian squad, finalised on the night.

Courtey Gum and AFL NSW/ACT Female Football Ambassador, Erin McKinnon were named as followers in the team. McKinnon was the only ruck named after a stellar season in the middle where she reached a competition-high 173 hit-outs at an average of 24.7 per game.

AFL NSW/ACT Youth Girls Head Coach, Alicia Eva was also named in the centre after averaging 17.9 disposals and a determined 7.4 tackles per match.

Local Sydney player, Rebecca Beeson was also up for the 2018 NAB AFL Rising Star Award, having been nominated after her Round One performance against Melbourne. Chloe Molloy was a runaway winner of the award, capping off an incredible debut season.
