Rams celebrate the Queen’s Birthday in style

Three AFL NSW/ACT Rams sides were in action over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend with the Under 16s and Under 17s boys playing in Blacktown, and the Under 16s Youth Girls travelling to Albury to make history.

Youth Girls Under 16s Rams vs. Vic Country

Youth Girls of an Under 16s age had never played at a state level before this weekend where the AFL NSW/ACT Rams took on Vic Country.

To enable Youth Girls to gain more experience through the female football pathway, the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Under-16s Championships were played as a one-round competition across Australia.

As a fairly inexperienced outfit, the Rams were impressive against their more-fancied rivals, keeping in touch with Vic Country until the final quarter when the visitors piled on four goals for victory.

Sydney’s Natalie Sligar was named the AFL NSW/ACT MVP, while Jayde Hamilton, Abbey Martin and Arizona Cross were named among the Rams’ bests. Amy Sligar and Abbey Martin were also the goal-scorers on the day.

While the Rams were unable to come away with the win, the history-making moment of another addition to the female talent pathway was a proud moment for all.

FINAL SCORE

AFL NSW/ACT – 2.2 (14)

VIC COUNTRY – 6.9 (45)

AFL NSW/ACT GOALS – Amy Sligar, Abbey Martin

AFL NSW/ACT BEST – Olivia Barber 2, Tyanna Smith 2, Elizabeth Snell, Renee Tierney

Under 16s Rams vs. Northern Territory

The Rams led from the front, with a second quarter defensive effort keeping the Territorians at bay as the Rams piled on four goals to none.

A final term surge, where Sydney Swans Academy member, Errol Gulden would add another two goals to his final tally of five, would see the Rams come home with a 62-point victory.

The Under 16s Rams will play Queensland on the Gold Coast for Round Two of the Championships on July 10, 2018.

It was a similar story for the Under 17s Rams with a steady increase of the margin across the game seeing them home against Tasmania.

In this opening round of the 2018 NAB AFL Under-17s Futures Series, it was a final term blitz which would get the Rams home by 49 points as they added four goals to their 14-goal tally for the day.

NAB AFL Academy member, Josh Rayner from Sydney’s North Shore starred for the Rams, kicking a bag of five goals in an impressive performance.

Sydney Swans Academy members, Jackson Barling (three goals) and Sam Thorne also had a day out against the Tasmanians, while GIANTS Academy member, Cameron Edwards was also named among the Rams’ best.
