Eastern Allies squad announced for upcoming 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Under-18s Champs

The AFL NSW/ACT Youth Girls players selected in the 2018 Eastern Allies squad have been announced ahead of Round 2 of the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Under-18s Championships.

The team – made up of AFL NSW/ACT and Tasmanian Youth Girls players – was selected following the recent weekend’s Round One matches between the two states.

Following an impressive performance where AFL NSW/ACT won both games, the Rams hold 16 places in the squad.

It comes as no surprise that two-time AFL NSW/ACT Most Valuable Player, Thurgoona’s Alyce Parker has been selected, while consistent goal-kickers, Brea Quinlivan (Albury) and Alexia Hamilton (Canberra) are also in the team.

After returning from long-term injury during Round One, Emily Hurley (Western Sydney) has been selected, and Georgia Breward (Grafton) who was injured in the first match of the weekend and sat out the second, has also been named.

AFL NSW/ACT Youth Girls Head Coach, now Eastern Allies Head Coach, Alicia Eva says she is glad to see so much local talent make the team.

“It’s really pleasing to see a number of the AFL NSW/ACT Youth Girls make the final Eastern Allies squad – it’s a reward for their hard work over the last few months,” says Eva.

“There were some girls we could have earmarked as certain starters a few months back, and then some others we needed to see a bit more from. The most pleasing thing for me as coach is to see those girls really put their hands up over the weekend and solidify their place.

“I’m really looking forward to coming together with the Tasmanian girls and crafting a game style that showcases the talent in the group. We have a versatile squad with a good mix of speed and height, so I’m excited to see what we can produce.”

AFL Tasmania will announce those included in the Eastern Allies squad from Tasmania in due course.

The Eastern Allies will come up against the Central Allies (a hybrid SA and NT team), Western Australia and Queensland when they travel to the Gold Coast in July.
